In year’s past, I have asked God for a word for the New Year. I didn’t this year. But God gave me one this morning anyway.
The Word? Prosper.
I know “prosper” is a four letter word in some Christian circles. But prosperity was God’s original intent for His children:
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
Genesis 1:27-28 NKJV
Before man performed a single act, “God blessed Him.”
The first commandment was, “Be fruitful and multiply.” Is that not the very definition of prospering?
Later we see God placed precious stones and gems in the earth, simply for its aesthetic value.
God is generous. He is extravagant.
After the fall of man, God once again established his covenant with man through Abram. He gives us purpose for the blessing. He tells us why He wants us to prosper.
“I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.”
Genesis 12:2 NKJV
We are sons and daughters of Abraham. We are blessed to be a blessing. We prosper so that the world through us will prosper as well.
In the New Testament we are given more revelation on prosperity.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
III John 1:2 NKJV
Apostle John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, prayed in agreement with the heart of the Father. God wants His children to prosper in ALL things – health, finances, relationships but most importantly our souls.
Let us cooperate with God this New Year and prosper in our souls. Let us get in the word and allow it transform us, break alliances with lies, and free us to walk-in the fullness. And as we prosper in our souls, prosperity in other areas will follow.
Friends, let’s prosper in 2020 so that we can help others prosper. We are blessed to be a blessing.
