Life Lessons from the Story of Jehoshaphat

Most of us are familiar with the story of King Jehoshaphat. A vast army threaten Israel and God gave them a miraculous victory. If you are not, I suggest you read II Chronicles 20. It’s a great story of faith in the midst of adversity. Here are some lessons God reminded me of as I read it:

1. When trouble is threatening our first response should be to pray, fast, and seek God’s wisdom. (v. 3)
2. A great leader is not afraid to admit he/she does not know everything and confess their total dependence on God. (v. 12)
3. There is power when a family, a church, a community, an organization, a nation come together and seek God. (v. 13)
4. The prophetic voice is important (v. 14)
5. Do not fear. But confront your conflict head on. (v. 15, 16)
6. God will fight for you (v. 15)
7. Prophesy your victory. (15 – 17)
8. Worship God. Thank Him for what He will do. (v. 18)
9. Have faith in God. Trust the prophetic word you receive. (v. 20)
10. Obey the voice of the Lord. (v. 21)
11. Praise is powerful. Praise wins battles. Praise sets up an ambush against your enemy. (v. 22)
12. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. (v. 23)
13. After you face the battle, you will plunder your enemy. You will come out stronger, wiser, richer.
14. You will rejoice over your enemy. (v. 27)
15. Your testimony will lead others to see the goodness and glory of God. (v. 29)
16. After the battle, you will find rest on all sides. (v. 29)

I believe these lessons are not just for a battle. But these are life lessons to be applied daily in order to live a victorious, abundant, beautiful life.

“He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’ ””
‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭20:15-17‬ ‭NIV
