Eyes Wide Open

Yesterday, in church service, God put this thought on my mind: “Jesus accepted us as His bride with His eyes wide opened.”

He was not deceived like Jacob. God didn’t promise Him angels and after the resurrection gave Him humans.

He was not like some-starred eyed woman who marries a frog but thinks as soon as she says, “I do” he will magically turn into Prince Charming.

No, Jesus did a thorough background check on you. He knew your past failures, your past mistakes, your flaws and your warts and He chose to wed you not in spite of but because of. Not only did He know your past, He knew your future. He knew the mistakes you would make after accepting Him. He foresaw the times when you would turn your back on Him, deny Him, demand your own way, revert back to your old ways, refuse to forgive and royally screw up. Yet He chose you anyway.

He knew all about you and chose you as His bride anyway. Think about that for a moment. He is committed to you. He will not leave or forsake you, because He is a good, faithful husband, who hates divorce!

So rest assured. You may be going through a difficult time. You may be wondering if God is angry with you or if He has forsaken you. He has not. He is with you for eternity. He accepted you as bride with His eyes wide open. There is nothing that you can do to make Him love you less. There is nothing you can do to make Him love you more. So rest in His unfailing, extravagant love. You are forever His bride. He is forever your Bridegroom.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:25-27‬ ‭NIV
