My heart is heavy this morning. Mississippi. Texas. Ohio.
I’m speechless. I’m angry. I’m saddened. I’m scared. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to be a solution to the anger, racism, violence that seems to characterize our nation, today.
When King Jehoshaphat’s nation was threatened, the Lord said to him: Worship. God is speaking the same thing to me this morning – worship.
I’m reluctant. “Lord, how will worship heal our nation? I want action. I want mass shootings to stop. I want to feel safe shopping for school supplies or going to a concert. I want a fix.”
And the Lord replied, “Worship.”
Worship takes my eyes off of my problems and reminds me from where my true help comes.
Worship invites God to be God in my life.
Worship allows God to be enthroned over my situation.
Worship silences the enemy.
Worship thwarts the plans of the enemy.
Worship calms my fears, erases my doubts, and frees my mind to see the impossible as possible.
During times like this, our questions to God tend to be, “How could you let this happen? Where were you?” But God says, “In the midst of confusion, anger, questioning, declare WHO I am.”
So this morning, I worship.
Normally, I leave you with a scripture. This morning, let me leave you with a hymn. Click here to sing with me.
O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
And when I think of God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And lead me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow with humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
