What I Have Seen and Heard

When asked if He were truly the Messiah, Jesus said “tell them what you have seen and heard.” Jesus demonstrated the gospel with power, with signs and wonders. He taught in such a way, the poor were empowered to be poor no more. He gave mother’s back their children, sisters back their brother. He touched the untouchable, accepted the rejected. Healed the sick in body and the sick in heart. As He went throughout the land, just being Himself word spread, people came searching for Him.

In July, I have the privilege of going to Mexico on a missions trip with 30 Saints. My prayer is that we would do what Jesus did – heal the sick, raise the dead, set the oppressed free, preach the gospel. But last night, I was reminded that this was Jesus’ normal M.O. So it should be mine as well. My everyday life should be filled with signs and wonders. My everyday life should cause people to seek the goodness, the majesty of God. My everyday life should be filled with accepting the rejected, loving the unlovable, healing the sick, and empowering the poor to be poor no more.

When people ask me the reason for my faith, I want to say to them, “this is what I have seen and heard…”

“So he answered them, “Go tell John what you have seen and heard: The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed to them.”
