I read a familiar passage this morning: For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and sound judgment. II Timothy 1:7
Although I have read and quoted this scripture often, this morning, it caused me to ponder. I questioned its truthfulness. (Now, don’t get your panties in a wad. I believe in the inherent word of God but sometimes in questioning you get a greater revelation. This was one of those times.)
I see Christians filled with the Holy Spirit who are fearful.
I see Christians filled with the Holy Spirit relying on the government for power.
I see Christians filled with the Holy Spirit posting accusations and half-truths on social media. Love doesn’t do that.
I see Christians filled with the Holy Spirit blindly believing lies and unwilling to hear truth. That is not sound judgment.
My question to God was, “If you have given us power, love, and sound judgment, why aren’t we walking in it.”
God had me read II Timothy 1:6: “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
Maybe we need to stir up the gifts of God within us. Maybe we need to daily activate the Spirit of Power, Love and Sound judgment within us.
I don’t mean we need to work for them. They are gifts freely given to us. But apparently according to Paul, we need to stir them up!
How do we stir up our gifts?
1. Pray in the Spirit daily. Let’s not pray our agenda, our desires, our wants but just allow our spirit to pray.
2. Read the Word. Again, laying down your doctrine, ask God to give you new revelation. Ask God to reveal His heart as you read.
3. Fast.
4. Serve.
5. Starve your fear. Fear feeds on the news, conspiracy theories, and misinformation.
My brothers and sisters, let us take advantage of this incredible, true promise God has given us. We have a spirit of Power, Love, and Sound Judgment. Don’t allow the enemy to steal this from us! America needs a church that is powerful, loving, and wise. Let us be the Healing America needs.
