Unknown Hero

Ebed-Melech. You probably never heard of him. I hadn’t until this morning. He was a eunuch, an Ethiopian (a brother) in the King’s court. Jeremiah, an outspoken prophet of God spoke the truth and was thrown into a dungeon with no food or water because of it. Ebed-Melech, a foreigner, advocated for Jeremiah and led a rescue team that delivered him from the pit.

Because of his faithfulness, his bravery, his willingness to go against the majority, to stand up for what was right, God gave him this promise:

“But I will deliver you in that day,” says the LORD, “and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword; but your life shall be as a prize to you, because you have put your trust in Me,” says the LORD.’ ””
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭39:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Taking a stand for what is right is not easy. Going against the majority and standing up for your convictions can be scary. But God is still looking for Ebed-Melech’s to stand against injustice, to go against the grain and stand up for the poor, the mistreated, and for those who have no voice. God is still looking for people who trust in Him more than the approval of the majority.

Will you be an Ebed-Melech?
