What is unity? Does unity mean we all must think alike, look alike, pray alike, worship alike? Can we disagree and still be unified? Can we walk in unity if I vote differently than you? Protest differently?
Unity does not mean agreement in every single issue. That is the definition of a cult. True unity brings diverse people – people of varying ethnicities, political beliefs, denominations, socio-economic statuses together and says we are going to agree on one truth and love each other anyway in the things we disagree about. There can be no unity without diversity.
What is the ONE truth that unites us as a Christian? Jesus is the Son of God, died, and rose, so that we can have eternal lie and life abundantly.
The Psalmist David said this will bring you higher:
“How truly wonderful and delightful to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity!” Psalms 133:1
There is power when we achieve this unity. Jesus said: “Again, I give you an eternal truth: If two of you agree to ask God for something in a symphony of prayer, my heavenly Father will do it for you. For wherever two or three come together in honor of my name, I am right there with them!””
Matthew 18:19-20 TPT
Let us stop majoring on the minors and determine in our hearts to dwell in unity with our brothers and sisters. Let us unite in the essential. Let us love one another in the non-essentials.
Remember God unifies. The devil divides. God highlights our commonality. The enemy highlights our differences. God extends an olive branch. The enemy extends ultimatums. Identify what spirit you are following.
