“I can’t hear from God.” Unfortunately, I have heard that untruth spoken by too many Christians. The Bible is clear, “My sheep hear my voice.” If you are saved, you hear God’s voice. This is a promise from Jesus.
We all hear from God, we just need to discern His voice. There are three voices that contend for our attention: Our own thoughts, the enemy of our souls, and God.
Ho do we distinguish between the three? The enemy’s voice is easiest to discern. It’s the voice of unworthiness (yours and others). It’s the voice of condemnation and guilt. It’s the voice of hopelessness, discouragement and isolation. It’s a voice that wants to kill, steal, and destroy.
God’s voice is the polar opposite. It’s the voice of grace and mercy. It’s the voice of hope, possibilities, unity. It’s a voice that brings life abundantly.
Our voice is neutral. Our voice decides to whom we will listen. It can choose to agree with the enemy or God. Our voice chooses if we are going to live in fear or love? Grace or shame? Discouragement or hope? Our voice chooses whether it will partner with God or the enemy and then it speaks.
As a child of God, you hear his voice. You just may need practice tuning in.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;”
John 10:27 NASB
