The third component of redemption is God’s promise he will contend with those who contend with us (Isaiah 49:25). God will avenge us against our enemies with great acts of judgment.
Now, before you get excited and think God is going to smite our coworkers who mistreated us, terrorize our exes who betrayed us, or eliminate those who have hurt us, remember we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and God is not a Mafia Boss. God is not inflicting harm upon others on our behalf.
No, God is taking his vengeance out upon the fear that has kept you bound, the anger that has kept your isolated, the poverty that has kept you in lack, the rejection that has kept you quiet, the sickness that has kept you in bed, the accusations that have made you cower in shame. He is demolishing every argument and every pretension thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.
“Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us. And by the power of the cross, Jesus led them around as prisoners in a procession of triumph. He was not their prisoner; they were his!” (Colossians 2:15 TPT)
