Refuse to Settle

Two lessons learned from Abraham this morning.

1. Do not settle for less than God’s best. Terah, Abraham’s Father was originally called to the land of Canaan. But when he got to Harran, he stopped. He settled there. He never reached his potential. He died short of his promise.

Giving up is tempting. I threaten to give about once a week. But I am spurred by a promise and a God who is faithful. Terah did not have what we have. We have stories of Abraham, Joseph, and David. We have an inner witness. I want my obit to read, “She walked in the fullness of everything God promises. She refused to settle for less.”

2. Don’t become envious. Abraham took his nephew under his wing. Raised him like a son. Lot is experiencing the residual blessing of Abraham’s promise. But Lot has something Abraham doesn’t. A fertile wife.

It’s hard when you see others who have not been in the fight as long as you quickly have doors opened. It’s hard to see other leap frog over you. You have a promise. They receive the blessing.

But remember, the bigger the promise, the longer the process. God is preparing you and he is preparing the promise. Greatness takes time. Don’t despise the wait. Don’t allow envy to take up residence in your heart. God’s resources are not limited. You are closer than you think.

Let’s decree together we will see progress in 2019. We will see more of our dreams, more of our promises come to pass in 2019. We will not relent. We will not succumb to envy. We will not doubt God’s goodness. We will continue moving forward. #morein2019

“Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭11:31‬ ‭NIV‬‬
