The Fear of The Lord

Looking through my memories on Facebook, I noticed one thing: I am always overwhelmed and tired this time of the year.

And every year, I come to the same conclusion: stop focusing on all that needs to be done and focus on Jesus.

Yesterday grading papers, writing recommendations, preparing for my bible study, and preparing lesson plans ALL screamed “NOW!”

But instead of allowing them to dictate my schedule, I sat on a bench, enjoyed the beautiful afternoon and prayed in the Spirit while reading my bible.

God gave me a gift while sitting there. He showed me what it means to fear the Lord.

“Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days.”
‭‭Hosea‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The word fear used here is the Hebrew word, “pachad”. It means to be surprised or startled or in awe. Essentially, God is saying to His rebellious nation, “l’m going to bless you so much you will be surprised by my goodness. You will stand in awe at just how much I love you.”

Lord let me “pachad” You today. Let my “pachad” of You, be the beginning of my wisdom, and long life. As I “pachad” You, give me confidence. Surprise me Lord with your goodness, your blessings, and your unfailing love. I stand in pachad of You, today.
