Silver and Gold, I Have None

Sometimes our requests are designed to placate our true need. We pray for the pain to subside, when really a deeper issue needs healing. We ask for more money when perhaps we need wisdom in managing our finances.

There was a man who begged for money all of his life. Lame from birth. Perhaps he didn’t believe he could be healed. Perhaps he believed God was angry with him. He had accepted this is who I am, lame, and begging is what I do.

But then one day he asked the wrong people for money. They looked beyond his request and saw his true need. In a suddenly, his begging days were over. He was healed, restored, transformed.

I’m learning two lessons from this story this morning:

1. God wants to go deep into our hearts and our circumstances and bring about true, restorative healing. He wants to uproot lies we have believed and transform us from beggars to princesses and princes.

2. The most important thing we have to give away, is the power and love of God. We owe the world a demonstration of God’s healing power.

So this morning, I am asking God to see beyond my requests and reveal to me the deeper issue He wants to heal in my heart and circumstances and then I’m going into the world and demonstrate his power. Anyone want to join me?

“But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, stand up and walk!””
