Stay On Brand

Sometimes life is unfair. Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes it seems as if the deck is stacked against you. Sometimes people really are out to get you. What do you do?

Daniel was a righteous and wise man. He ran the king’s affairs with excellence. He was faithful, responsible, and trust worthy in his duties. But his coworkers were out to get him.

His coworkers convinced the egotistical king to enact a law they knew Daniel would not heed. They stacked the deck to ensure Daniel’s failure.

The King declared, “No one could pray to anyone except the king for thirty days.

Daniel’s response should be our response when life is unfair. Daniel’s response should be our response when we encounter trials, diagnosis, heartaches, disappointments. He didn’t complain about the unfairness. He didn’t start a petition. He simply continue doing what he did before the law was enacted – he worshipped.

Daniel stayed on brand. Knowing his decision could end his life, he continued to worship the Lord, His God. Their threats did not change his freedom. Their deception did not alter his devotion. Their plans did not deter his purpose. Daniel continued to pray and worship. Daniel stayed on brand.

We all know the rest of the story. Because of his actions, Daniel was thrown in the lion’s den and was miraculously delivered by God. But what spoke to me tonight was this:

Daniel was able to stay on brand because his brand was cultivated long before the trial. The Bible says this was Daniel’s custom. What he cultivated in private sustained him when life became difficult.

Boys & girls, don’t wait until you “have” to pray; learn to routinely wordship Him now! When the trials come, when the accusations arise, when the diagnoses come, you can stay on brand.

What if our stories read: When she heard the bad news, she went home and worshipped as usual. She prayed just as she had always done, giving thanks to God.

Let’s cultivate our brand as women and men who worship and pray, daily.

“But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.”
