God will provide. Do I believe this?
You know we like to say, “God is never late but he is rarely early.” But I don’t think that is biblical.
God is called Jehovah-Jireh by Abraham. Remember the story in Genesis 22? God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son. As they were walking toward the sacrifice site, Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb?” Abraham replied, “God will provide – Jehovah Jireh.”
But the name Jehovah-Jireh actually means “God looks ahead and provides.”
When the angel stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, Abraham lifted his eyes and he saw the ram that was caught in the thicket. The ram had been there but Abraham didn’t see it until he lifted his eyes.
I have to trust God has already provided what I need. So I lift my eyes to Him.
This morning I awoke to news that I would be down a person for our next outreach. My first thought – panic. But then I remembered my history with God. He has always looked ahead and provided. We have never experienced lack. While God has not yet opened my eyes to see the Ram in the bush, I know it’s there. Because I trust God is Jehovah Jireh, the God who looks ahead and provides.
Friends, do you have a need?
Trust Jehovah Jireh, the God who looks ahead and provides.
Trust El Shaddai, the Lord God Almighty.
Trust Jehovah Shalom, the Lord your peace.
Trust Jehovah Shammah, the Lord who is there.
Trust Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals.
Lift up your eyes and see the ram in the bush God has already provided for you.
“Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.””
