Have you ever gone through a season when it seems as if trouble lies on every side? It seems no matter what you do, the enemy seems to be one step ahead? Have you gone through a time of deep disappointment, confusion, sorrow? Have you ever felt like giving up and throwing in the towel? Have you ever wanted to stop hoping, stop praying, stop believing?

I wonder if the Psalmist felt this way when he wrote:

Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.” (Psalms 77:7-10 NLT)

When I awoke this morning at 3:00 am, this is truly how I felt. And as much as I wanted to wallow in self-pity, I knew I could not stay there. So I lay in bed and silently prayed in the Spirit, I declared the goodness of God and I read the Psalms. I needed a Word from God. I needed an infusion of hope. I needed strength to face another day. In His goodness, God spoke to me through this Psalm.

This was God’s word for me, perhaps for you as well.

“You may feel as if you are standing between a river and a pursuing army. You may feel as if you have taken a step of faith and I have abandoned you, left you all alone. But I am making a new road for you in the midst of the adversity. This road will connect you to your destiny. I have not released you to abandon you. Your promise land is in sight.”

No one could have fathom that God would part a sea and I can’t fathom how He is going to work all this together for my good, but now I know He is creating a road for me. Now I am assured He is working on my behalf.

But then I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations. By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Interlude When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths. The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds. (Psalms 77:11-20 NLT)
