What is happening? Just yesterday the people were shouting, “Hosanna!” Just yesterday we were on a mountain, communing with Moses and Elijah. And today.
Our leader has been betrayed, arrested, crucified, pronounced dead, and buried. We ran and literally left our friend, our teacher hanging and alone. One of our brothers hanged himself because the guilt was more than he could bear.
We are left mourning our teacher, questioning the last three years and riddled with guilt for not standing by our friend. Could this day get any worse. Could this moment get any darker. All hope has gone. “This Friday has not been a “Good Friday”.”
You may be in a season where you are asking the same question: “Can this season get any worse?” Maybe a loved one betrayed you; maybe you were falsely accused; maybe the enemy has attacked your body, your finances, your reputation, your marriage, or your child. And you, like the disciples, are left disillusioned, disappointed, without hope. This has not been a good season.
Take heart my friend. Just as Jesus told His disciples many times, I’m here to remind you: A resurrection is coming! This dark season is temporary. Without Friday there is no Sunday. Without a death there is no resurrection. Without a test there is no testimony. Victory only comes after a battle.
The disciples did not enjoy Friday while it was happening. Friday was hard. Tears were shed. Fear gripped their hearts. Questions were left unanswered. They did not understand why. Friday was not good. But Sunday tears turned joy, questions were answered, fear subsided. Now they understood Friday. They could now look back and declare, “That was a GOOD Friday.
You may not understand or enjoy your season. But I guarantee, Sunday is coming. Like the disciples, your tears will turn to joy, your questions answered. You will look back at this season and see how God was at work. You will see how He sustained you, how He kept you. You will see how your faith was strengthen and how you grew more intimate with God. You will recognize what the enemy meant to destroy you, God turned it around for your good. You will look back at this season and declare: That was a GOOD season in God.
Don’t despise Friday because Sunday is coming!
“That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!”
