What lesson is the Lord teaching me in this season? How to honor and love flawed leaders.
As a math teacher, I love absolutes. In movies, I want my good guys to be good and my bad guys to be bad. I don’t have patience for a vigilante hero.
But in life, no one is absolutely good or absolutely evil. Alas, our heroes in life are all flawed.
Parents may have had affairs.
Pastors and church leaders may behave inconsistent with their sermons.
Political leaders may have ulterior motives.
Spouses may disappoint.
So how do we love and honor flawed heroes without becoming cynical and untrusting?
We remember, we are someone’s hero and we too are flawed. Yet God loves us in our flaws, in our weakness. He freely extends forgiveness when we disappoint ourselves and others. He never leaves us.
Remember God loves your hero even in their flaws. He has forgiven your hero.
So how do we love flawed heroes?
Celebrate that which is good.
Acknowledge yet forgive that which is being perfected.
Honor the person because they are His.
“And now there is nothing between you and Father God, for he sees you as holy, flawless, and restored,”
