Fight Like Captain America

I joke that on Thursdays, Wake County Public School System pays me to pray.

My “duty” on Thursdays is to ensure the third floor wing is orderly. So I prayer walk the halls, praying quietly over the school, my personal life, and anything the Lord puts on my heart as I keep the halls peaceful.

But this Thursday, I was numb. In the first twelve days of 2023, my great nephew passed away, a friend’s son attempted suicide, one of my students was violently raped, and that day I found out my brother’s stepdaughter passed away.

I was numb. I was angry. I was disillusioned. I had no strength to pray. I just did my duty, quietly.

Around my second lap, a teacher stopped me and asked if I had heard the news. Apparently, a student (I didn’t know him) minutes earlier, had a seizure and had to be taken to the hospital.

At that moment, my numbness ignited into passion. My anger into indignation. My disillusion into faith. The enemy had over played his hands!

I spent the rest of my duty praying and contending for my family and the students of the school. I stole the words of Captain America and told the enemy, “I can do this all day.”

Friends, I know these are hard days. I don’t know what you are going through but I want to encourage you, don’t give up. Don’t allow the enemy to disable your most powerful weapon – prayer.

This season is not the time to give in to numbness. This is the time as Captain America also says, to “Suit up!”

Put on your belt of truth. Adorn your breastplate of righteousness. Lace up your shoes of peace. Stand behind your shield of faith. Strap on your helmet of salvation. Grab your sword and engage in battle – pray. Pray as if your life depended on it.

Remember, we are not fighting people. We contend for people. We are fighting against spiritual beings in the heavenly places. Don’t get discouraged, cause greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Don’t allow the enemy to silence your prayers.

Come on my friends, let’s pray.

“praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
