Counterintuitive

Our entire life, we live in a reward driven society. As a child, we learn to study and our reward is good grades. We earn good grades and our reward is entrance into college. We go to work and apply ourselves and our rewards are raises and promotions. We learn the harder we work, the more successful we are.

Which is why it’s so hard to understand the Kingdom of God with our natural minds. The Kingdom of God says, “You are righteous not because of your hard work but because of Jesus’. You are loved unconditionally. You are forgiven – past, present, future – not because you deserve it but because of what Jesus did.” This is mind boggling and is counter-intuitive to everything we have learned.

So how do we grasp it? How do we receive this no strings attached type of love? We ask the Holy Spirit to give us a greater revelation of His love, a greater revelation of His goodness, a greater revelation of the power inside of us because of the atoning work of God. We believe who we are in Christ by faith regardless of our shortcomings in the natural, regardless of how we see ourselves.

Pray this with me:

“I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower me with inner strength through His Spirit. Christ has made His home in my hearts as I trust in Him. May my roots grow down into God’s love and keep me strong. And may I have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May I experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then I will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
