Fear is a powerful motivator.
It was present in the garden. (Eve feared she was withholding.)
Feared caused Abraham to lie about his marital situation.
Pharaoh was motivated by fear when he oppressed a nation of people.
The Pharisees feared loosing their status so they crucified an innocent man.
The Holocaust was motivated by fear of a people group.
The Jim Crow laws were motivated by fear.
Separation, greed, cruelty, racism, control, hatred are all rooted in fear.
Fear steals our dreams, silence our voice, keeps us paralyzed.
And what is the cure fo fear? Apostle John tells us, “Perfect love casts out all fear.”
So how do we overcome fear? We love.
We began by asking God for a greater revelation of His love for us.
We then meditate on the goodness of God and fall more in love with Him.
We learn to love ourselves. We see the beauty with which we were created. We understand our value in Him.
Finally, we are empowered to love others as we are loved.
Unity, generosity, kindness, reconciliation, grace are all rooted in love.
Love propels our dreams, gives us a voice, inspire us to walk in greatness.
On this Valentine’s Day, let us choose love.
“Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.””
