Back to the Future

The first movie James and I saw together was “Back to the Future.” It is still one of my most favorite movies. That movie represents everyone’s fantasy – time travel to the past, correct mistakes, return to the future to reap the benefits. While a great movie, alas it is just a fantasy. We cannot change our past. We cannot rewrite the mistakes, the choices made by our parents, or our younger selves.

But in God, our past does not have to dictate our future. God has promised to restore. Even areas in our lives that have been effected by generations of bad choice, God has promised to rebuild. We can declare new beginnings for this generation and generations to come. We get to speak generational blessings over our children and their children. We get to begin a new legacy filled with hope and possibilities.

Let us not mourn our past. Let us not blame our parents. Let us stop looking backwards, but let us look towards our future with hope and anticipation. We cannot change our past. But we can fashion our tomorrow by what we believe and say today.

“They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬
