Growing up, we sang a song with lyrics, “Let’s go up to the mountain. I’ve been in the valley too long.”
Have you been in the valley? Depressed, discouraged, sick? Perhaps you are waiting for your circumstance to change. You are waiting for the child to return home, the marriage to get better, the job to come, the healing to happen. So you dwell in the valley. Waiting. Walking around the same mountain, over and over again.
When God told the children it was time to enter the promised land the second time, the only thing that had changed was the old mindsets had died. The God who took them into the promised land was the same God who was with them 40 years prior. God did change. His plans didn’t change. There were still giants in the land. They still had to fight. The only change was their mindsets.
I’m suggesting that what is keeping us in the valley is not our circumstances but rather our mindsets. Fear, doubt, unbelief, insecurity must die in the valley as we enter into our promised land.
Have you been in the valley too long? Decide today, despite your circumstances, despite what you see, to enter the land promised to you. Go boldly.
Unlike the children of Israel, we don’t rely on our obedience, we enter based on Jesus’ perfect obedience. We keep moving forward. We declare and take hold of this promise Moses gave the children of Israel – the Lord is doing the heavy lifting, he will open doors and put you in places beyond your education, every place you put your foot, you shall possess, he is extending your influence, no weapon formed against you shall prosper, you will have favor wherever you go.
I’ve been in the valley too long. I’ll see you on the mountaintop. Who is going with me?
“then the Lord will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. No one will be able to stand against you. The Lord your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go.”
