This week, I seemed as if I were drowning in paper grading, recommendation writing, test making. It seemed as if every time I completed one task, two more were added. I was overwhelmed. Monday, I decided to do something counter intuitive. I decided to spend more time in the word.
Guess what? Weeks of papers somehow got graded, deadlines for recommendations were extended and I now feel as if I have breathing room.
Do you feel as if you are drowning? Bills that need to be paid, sickness is devouring you, the storms of life are unrelenting? Do something counter intuitive and stop focusing on the problem and focus on Jesus.
The disciples are in the boat. A storm rises. These great men of faith declare, “we are going to drown!” Did they not realize who was in the boat with them? Do you not realize who is in the boat with you? Command your storm to relent and then turn your eyes to Jesus. You will not drown as long as Jesus is in your boat.
The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” (Luke 8:24-25 NIV)
