David was running from Saul. He sought temporary shelter with the priests. Because of the evilness in Saul’s heart, he condoned the slaughtering 75 priest and their families.
David mourned. He felt responsible for the blood shed. He condemned this act in Psalm 52. He resolved to allow God to avenge. Yet, he did not allow his mourning to become inward guilt. He knew this happened not because of him but because of the evilness in men’s heart. Through tragedy, David was able to declare his unfailing trust in God’s unfailing love. In the midst of tragedy, David declared:
“But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will trust in your good name in the presence of your faithful people.” Psalms 52:8-9 NLT
What are you declaring in the middle of tragedy?
