When it comes to healing, Jesus is not a one trick pony. As I read the New Testament it amazes me the many ways Jesus healed people. Sometimes with a touch, sometimes with a word, a couple times with spit. There were times when He healed with crowds present others times He requested seclusion. One time before healing, he forgave the person.
With Jesus there was no formula for healing, no one size fits all. Each healing was personal, individual. Each healing was designed to heal the person wholistically.
I believe God wants to heal today. I believe He wants to heal through His children. So why don’t I see the same results Jesus and his disciples experience? For me, I think I often rely more on principles than relationship. I know that by His stripes I am healed. I know I have authority over all sickness. I know God wants His children healed. But this knowledge often produces a formula within me.
God is teaching me the only two common denominators when Jesus healed -Love and Listening. He is teaching me that I need to minister out of a place of love while listening to the Holy Spirit. Healing is a partnership with the Holy Spirit. God wants to go deep and heal not just the physical ailment but the wounded heart as well. But I need to be willing to lay down my formulas, lay down the way that may have worked many times before, quiet myself and allow the Holy Spirit to lead in that moment. I’m learning.
After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!” ). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
