Must one hit rock bottom before tuning to the Lord? Saul was a very successful sinner. He had clout and was well respected in the Jewish community. His name brought fear in the Christian community. But while he was in the middle of persecuting the church, God had mercy on Him and changed His life forever.
Do you have a loved one that is a successful sinner? Someone who is seems too far gone? Someone where it seems all hope is gone? Take a look at Paul’s life and allow it to restore your hope. If God can save Saul, someone who had dedicated his life to persecuting fans of His son, surely that same God can save your son, your daughter, your brother, your sister, your spouse, your friend.
Pray this for your pre-Christian loved ones:
“Lord you are generous and gracious. Have mercy on (the name of your loved one) and fill him/her with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. Amen.”
God has not given up on your loved one. Don’t you give up either!
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him, even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief. Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 1:12-14 NLT)
