Meditate on His Love

Let me tell you a teacher secret, “Students, especially students who struggle, are more likely to perform well for you, if they like you.” I asked a student who was a top performer for me, why hadn’t he done well in his previous math classes and he shrugged and said, “I don’t know, I guess I like you.”

Herein lies a spiritual truth. The more we meditate on God’s love for us, the more we grow in understanding of God’s unfailing love for us, sin looses its appeal. King David put it this way,

“For the king trusts in the Lord. The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling.” Psalms‬ ‭21:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

All sin is is rooted in fear. We cheat on our taxes for fear of lack. We cheat on our spouses for fear of insignificance or intimacy. We lie for fear of hurting someone or looking bad. We are mean to each other for fear of being hurt. Racism is fear of people who are different, fear of loosing status, fear of being hurt.

And what is the remedy for fear? Perfect love casts out all fear. Who has perfect love? Only God.

So as we meditate on God’s love, fear dissipates. The desire to sin follows.

I have no need to cheat or steal to get my way. I know God who loves me will supply all of my needs.

I don’t need to find love in a person’s arm. I find love in God’s arms.

I can love all people and forgive freely without fear of being hurt because I am loved and forgiven and God will protect my heart.

My friends, if you are struggling with a sin pattern, an addiction, or having trouble loving a group of people, ask God to give you a greater revelation of His love for you. He is faithful to do it. And as you meditate on and receive His love, you will be empowered to “Go and sin no more.”
