Last night my school had an Open House. Parents were invited to come speak to their teachers from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. I was not looking forward to this. I dreaded the 12 hour workday. I dreaded sitting around for 2 1/2 hours doing nothing because I knew many of my parents weren’t coming.
Sure enough, I had only a hand full of parents attend but God gave me opportunity to have deep, meaningful conversations with the parents who attended. I was able to encourage parents their children would be okay, (A ‘B’ in Calculus is not the end of their academic career.) I was able to ease a working mom’s heart. One parent was feeling angst because she couldn’t volunteer in church as much as she wanted. We had a great conversation about grace. I shared my life hack about making meals – gift cards.
It was a night of encouragement.
If you are dreading a social situation, or your job, or even going to the grocery store, chances are others are as well. Ask God to show you who needs an encouraging word, a smile, an invitation to join in with the others. Be his voice today and encourage someone. Get your eyes off your situation and be a blessing for someone today. Someone today needs to hear what you have to say.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
