How do you thrive in a famine? Sow seed. Now I know that is counter intuitive. I know any farmer or Gardner would say that’s ludicrous. But in the kingdom of God, we are taught to sow in times of a famine.
There was a famine in the land. God appeared to Isaac and instructed him not to go to Egypt. (That is also counter intuitive because we love to run to greener pastures but that thought is for another day.) Isaac stayed and sowed despite the famine. What was the result of this risky move? He reaped 100 fold and became prosperous.
What is your famine today? Is it despair? Sow hope. Is it depression? Sow joy. Is your marriage struggling? Sow love. Is it financial lack? Sow generously. Is it loneliness? Sow your time. Is it ministry? Sow prayers. Is your child far from God? Sow words that remind them of their true identity.
If you feel as if you are in famine, I believe God is calling you no to run, not to give up, but to look to Him for relief. In your famine, God is calling you to stand strong and sow good seeds into your area of barrenness. As you do, you will prosper and reap 100 fold. Your famine is temporary. Sow as if you know this is true.
“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.”
