Today begins a new semester. New students. New lessons. One of the things I like about teaching is that you can start over again every 18 weeks. You get to learn from past mistakes, rejoice in your past successes but start over again, move forward.
The kingdom of God is like that as well. Everyday, you can choose to start again. You get to learn from yesterday’s mistakes and move to tomorrow’s victory. Each morning you arise freshly forgiven, with new possibilities, with new hope.
Let us embrace God’s new mercies! Let’s not dwell on past failures, past difficulties or our past successes. Let us embrace the gift God has given us, “a new day”. Let’s open our eyes and see the new possibilities God is showing us. Let’s face this day with new hope. Yesterday there may have been mourning but this morning joy has come!
The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT)
