I was listening to an old Gospel song the other day. The gist of the song was, “The World is in a bad way and we need Jesus.” I thought, “Forty years later, and we are still singing the same song – ‘the world is bad we need to turn back to God’.”
We have painted this picture of God crying over America because of sin, punishing America because we have violated His Word. But the Bible says, “God is actually rejoicing and singing over us.” What if that were the picture we portrayed of God to the world instead of this angry God who is sitting in heaven, arms folded, and rolling his eyes because of our mistakes.
And what if we, instead of pronouncing judgment on the world, joined God and began to rejoice over each other with singing and dancing. What if we, acted like our Dad, and saw the good in each other and celebrated that?
God is not angry with America. He wasn’t angry when President Obama was president and He is not angry now. He is not nor has He ever pronounced judgment upon us as a country. Not because we, as a country, has ever acted righteously, but because He is good. He is righteous. He has promised He will never be angry or rebuke us again (Isaiah 54:9).
Let us sing a new song to the world; a song of that declares God’s goodness, a song that tells of His free forgiveness, a song that leads others to repentance because of His goodness.
“ADONAI has taken away your punishments. He has turned back your adversary. The King of Israel, ADONAI, is in your midst. Never again will you fear harm. On that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, ‘Have no fear, O Zion, do not let your hands fall limp. ADONAI your God is in your midst— a mighty Savior! He will delight over you with joy. He will quiet you with His love. He will dance for joy over you with singing.’”
Zephaniah 3:15-17 TLV
