Giant

It was everything they were promised. A beautiful land filled with juicy fruit – figs, grapes, pomegranates. A land with green pastures that could sustain a nation. It was truly a land flowing with milk and honey. There was just one small problem. There was only one thing that stood between a nation and its promise. There was only one thing that stood between just getting by and living abundantly.

The only thing that could prevent a nation from receiving its promised destiny is the only thing that can prevent us from reaching our destiny. That one thing is not Giants, it’s not lack, it is not our weakness or inabilities. What prevented a nation from entering its promised land was FEAR.

Fear is the giant we will all face at some point – fear of man, fear of success, fear of failure, fear of looking stupid, fear of being disappointed, fear of lack, fear of stepping out in faith and drowning, fear of rejection. Fear. Fear is a spirit we choose to partner with. If allowed, it can be paralyzing. Fear can be a destiny stopper.

So how do we overcome fear? How do we believe God despite what we see? How do we weigh pro’s and cons but stay in faith? How do we not allow our hearts to be guided by fear?

Joshua and Caleb believed God more than they believed their circumstances. They held the Word of God in higher esteem than their obstacles. They trusted God more than their own abilities. They were able to do this because they had a history with God. Entering the promised land was not their first rodeo with God. They had seen God part a sea, drown their enemies, defeat a nation, provide manna, provide a glory cloud. They had seen God’s faithfulness. The others had seen the same miracles as Josh and Caleb but Josh and Caleb remembered. They realized those previous victories was merely a training ground for this ultimate victory.

So how do you overcome fear? Remind yourself of God’s past victories in your life. Meditate on the faithfulness you have experienced so far. God will not lead you into a battle for which you are not prepared. So if you are facing a giant, I bet if you look back, you will see He has been preparing you for the battle you face today.

So my friends, let us prepare to enter our promised land – a land flowing with milk and honey. Yes, there are Giants in the land but greater is He that is in you, than the Giants you face. You are prepared and equipped to defeat this giant. Fear Not!

“They said to the whole community of the Israelites, “The land we passed through to investigate is an exceedingly good land. If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us – a land that is flowing with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the LORD, and do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection has turned aside from them, but the LORD is with us. Do not fear them!””
