God commanded the people, “Take possession of the land I have given you.” It was a land flowing with milk and honey. Huge fruit was in the land. The land was to be their refuge, thier place of rest. The only problem was before they found rest, they would need to fight. Fight giants.
They measured themselves against the giants. They did not measure the giants against their God. Fear ruled. No giant slaying for these guys instead they wandered in the desert for forty years.
Fast forward to today.
God is commanding us. Go out into the world. Preach the gospel. Heal the sick. Rely only on Jesus. I am giving you the land. It’s a good land flowing with milk and honey. Great fruit is in the land. I am giving you rest. But you are going to need to fight. Fight demonic forces. But don’t fret. I have given you authority of every demonic force.
Now like the nation of Israel, we can measure the obstacles we face against our abilities or we can measure it against our God. We can wander around in the desert for years or we can trust God and enter into our promise land. We can fear or we can believe the promises of God. We can shriek back or we can boldly move forward.
But before you decide remember what happened when the seventy dared to believe Jesus. When 70 ordinary men accepted their commission, they came back with great tales of healing the sick, the lame walking. They reported, “Even the demons were subject us in Jesus’ name.
God’s love for you will not change regardless if you enter in or stay on the outside. He will be with you know matter what you decide today. But accepting the commission, entering in, is so much more fun (and yes scary). But when we dare accept the calling – healing the sick, casting out demons, preaching the Gospel, loving the unlovable, feeding the poor – we too will see Satan and his minions fall from the sky like lightening.
I’ve decided, I’m going in. Does anyone want to join me today?
“Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.””
