Untouchable. Can you imagine not being able to experience human touch? No warm embrace of a loved one, no welcoming kiss, not even an accidental brush from a stranger. Can you imagine the isolation one must feel?
So desperately he went to Jesus. He begs Jesus to heal him.
I wonder if Jesus smiled at him and thought, “Oh my son, this is why I have come. No need to beg. My heart’s desire is to see you whole. I’m not just going to heal your body, I’m going to heal your heart.”
We do know Jesus replied, “I am willing!” And then Jesus did something that was unthinkable. He touched the untouchable. In an unprecedented act, Jesus healed his body but gave this man what he ultimately desired – the warm embrace of a friend.
Has the shame of your past or even your present left you feeling untouchable, isolated, alone? Has the enemy convinced you that those you love – your family, your friends- would be better off if you withdraw? Today, your Savior has come and He desires to touch you. He has come to cleanse your of your past shame and present you as holy and blameless to the world! He has come to heal your body and your heart. Give Him your pain, your disappointments, your shame, your past, your addictions, your sin and allow Him to cleanse you. He is willing. Be healed!
“Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.”
