There is purpose in the pain. Now please hear me when I say, God is not the author of your pain. God is not sending disease, lack, heartache your way because of some unconfessed sin of yours or your ancestors. He is not withholding blessings until you get your act together. Jesus was very clear, “He came to give us an abundant life.” (John 10:10).
But nonetheless, there is purpose in the pain. We have all had to overcome – sickness, lack, disappointment, heartache – while they were not sent by God, He used them. He used our troubles to reveal His glory.
Without the sickness, we would not know Him as Healer.
Without lack, we would not know Him as Proviser.
Without disappointment, we would not know Him as Comforter.
Without heartache. We would not know Him as Peace.
As He reveals more and more of His glory to us, we learn to trust Him more and more. We learn to rely on His faithfulness. Bill Johnson calls it, making history with God.
I can’t rely on the history of my parents or my pastor or my favorite tele-evangelist. I have to cultivate my own story with, my own history with God.
Are you experiencing pain today? Sickness? Heartache? Lack? A broken heart? A troubled marriage? A lost child? I declare in the Name of Jesus, the pain you are experiencing today will be your testimony tomorrow. Your pain today will be a history lesson tomorrow. God is revealing His glory today in your pain. He is revealing more of His character. He is showing Himself as Healer, Comforter, Provider, Reconciliator, Redeemer, Forgiver, Lover, Father, Friend, Peace, Savior.
Don’t waste your pain. Learn His name in your pain.
“And they who know Your name [who have experience and acquaintance with Your mercy] will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God’s Word and the right of their necessity].”
