He had status. He had influence. He was by most accounts successful. But when his daughter became deathly ill, none of that matters. His position, His wealth, his leadership skills could not save his daughter. But he was a wise man and knew his hope, his only hope was in Jesus.
So he humbles himself, bows at His feet, and petitions Jesus. If his friends, the Pharisees knew, this could perhaps cost him his position of influence. His friends ridiculed him and laughed when Jesus pronounced their was hope. But this dad was desperate. He was undaunted by the possibilities of losing his position, willing to withstand ridicule. He was determined to see his daughter live!
How determined are you?
Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. (Luke 8:41-42 NIV)
