Samson is probably my least favorite bible “hero”. When I read his story, he seems like a big, strong, not too smart, jerk. As I’m reading his story, I’m asking the Holy Spirit, what am I supposed to learn from this?

Here are my takeaway from the Story of Samson

1. God can use anyone. It seems to me, Samson was led by lust. He made bad decisions because of the women he wanted. Yet God used him to judge Israel for 20 years.

2. A desire to please man (or in this case, woman) more than God can zap your strength. Now, I’m not saying God will remove your strength, I am saying we can misappropriate our strength. If I’m using my gifts to please man, I don’t have what’s needed to do what God called me to do.

3. Listen to people’s actions more than their words. Delilah’s Words said love, her actions said betrayal.

4. Be led by the Holy Spirit and not your emotions.

5. God can use our bad decisions for His good. Samson’s parents thought is was a bad idea for him to marry a Philistine. But God used for his good.

So as I read the story of Sampson, I once again see God’s grace. I once again have to take God out of the box I have put Him in and recognize he is beyond my comprehension. He is God, He does what it pleases.
