“He must increase, but I must decrease.” Or “More of Him less of me. John‬ ‭3:30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Are these legal prayers for New Testament Christians? Are these prayers full of false humility and a lack of understanding of our authority and identity? Yes and No.

John the Baptist originally uttered these words when his followers were jealous of how quickly Jesus’ following was growing. They wanted John to share in their offense. But John knew his purpose. He knew he was sent to prepare the way for Jesus. He knew his ministry was to increase (point people to) the ministry of Jesus. His success literally depended upon his following decreasing and Jesus’ following increasing.

What does that mean for us today? Well, our ministry hopefully is to point people toward Jesus, to populate heaven. If people walk away from me thinking, “She is amazing,” then I have failed miserably. I want people to leave me thinking, “Her God is awesome! Her God is mighty! Her God is a healer. I want to know her God more.” I want to increase Jesus’ popularity and decrease mine.

When I say, “I want more of Him and less of me”, I am not denying my uniqueness, my God given gifts and talents. God does not desire to empty me of my personality, my passions and make me into some bland, faceless robot. He uses my uniqueness, my personality. I express Jesus like no one else on this planet can. He doesn’t want to take that away and I don’t want Him to.

The cry, “more of Him less of me,” means I want to crucify my flesh and become more and more like Him. I want less of my fears but a greater revelation of His love. I want less of my insecurities and a greater revelation I have been made sufficient in Him.

Let mboldenministries increase only so that He can increase.
Let more of His goodness, His Love, His generosity permeate through me.
Let people see Him when they look at me.
Lord be exalted. Be magnified. Be lifted High.
