As Christians we each have a prophetic voice. We also have a choice. We can allow love or fear to motivate our voice. We can build up or we can tear down.
Elijah was God’s prophet. But he allowed fear to motivate his prophetic voice. He called down fire and 100 men lost their lives. What does a prophetic voice motivated by fear sound like? Gossip, complaining, criticism, conspiracy theories, accusations. What is its effect? Division, fear, worry, death.
But God desires and has given us the grace to use our prophetic voice to speak life. We are loved by the Father so that our prophetic voice can be motivated by His love. What does a prophetic voice motivated by love sound like? Encouragement, possibilities, finding the good in every situation. What is its effect? Hope, love, peace, life.
Everyday we get to choose, death or life, fear or love. Some days I choose better than others. But this is my prayer: Lord give me a greater revelation of your love. Give me grace to prophesy in love today. Let my words bring life, hope, peace, to everyone I encounter. Amen.
So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. “Man of God,” he begged, “please have respect for my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants! See, fire has fallen from heaven and consumed the first two captains and all their men. But now have respect for my life!” The angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king. (2 Kings 1:13-15 NIV)
