Sometimes, if we aren’t careful, we can elevate some spiritual gifts above others. The prophet, the pastor, the teacher are often given places of prominence. But we are all valuable in the Body of Christ. There is no insignificance in the Body of Christ. We each were uniquely created to serve uniquely.
If you are an encourager, then encourage. It does not have to be from a pulpit or stage. Write notes. Emboldened while shopping, at work, at school, knowing you are serving a valuable role in the Body of Christ. The world needs encouragement. (An encourager actually has a prophetic gifting.)
If your gift is hospitality, then host well. So many people are hurting, searching for a place to belong, a place to feel safe, a place to feel loved. You provide that. This is no small thing. The world needs hospitable people. (Hospitality is a form of evangelism.)
If your gift is mercy, show mercy. This world is quick to judge. The world needs people who can find good in people and situations and lead other people to see the good. We need people who are quick to forgive, and to hold our hands and raise us up when we fall. This world needs mercy. (Mercy is a form of pastoring).
My point this morning is that you are significant to the Body of Christ. You are valuable. Administrators, servers, givers, pastors, prophets, teachers – are all the same in the eyes of God. Each serve a purpose. Each are called to change their world through their gifts.
So please, let the comparison and jealousy end. Let us embrace the gifts we have been given. Let us be free to be who God has called us to be. In 2018, resolve to be uniquely you because no one else on this planet can be the You God has created!
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
Romans 12:6-8 NIV
