Did you know shame, guilt, and condemnation were not emotions initially experienced in the Garden of Eden? The emotions of guilt and shame were introduced after the fall.
We were not designed to carry these emotions. So how do I overcome them? How do I show remorse without partnering with guilt, condemnation and shame?
1. Take responsibility. Apologize without explanation. Make amends where possible.
2. Receive the forgiveness of God. (It may take others a minute to forgive you, respect that. )
3. Forgive yourself.
4. Believe truth – “You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus,” despite your actions. This truth does not ebb and flow with your behavior. The enemy will try to disqualify you because of the mistake, don’t listen to him. Remind yourself you are holy and blameless in God’s eyes.
5. Receive God’s love. Let God’s love eradicate all shame, guilt and condemnation. Straighten your crown and walk in the purposes of God.
I pray for anyone struggling with guilt, condemnation and shame this morning. May God give you a greater revelation of His love. May the Holy Spirit remind you that you are forgiven. I command the spirits of guilt and shame to flee and be quiet. I release peace over you and a greater revelation of Jesus’ atoning work. Amen
“Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.” Genesis 2:25 NLT
