I was reading Colossians yesterday and I noticed the verbs used to describe us were all in the past tense, meaning it has already been accomplished:
“and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:12-14 NIV
We have been qualified to share in the inheritance. We are not striving for this, it’s not a work in progress, it is who we are – qualified to share in the kingdom of light.
We have been rescued from the kingdom of darkness. Jesus’ first mission’s trip to the earth was a rescue mission. He came to destroy the works of the enemy and set the captives free. He was wildly successful. You have been rescued! You have been set free. His second coming is not a rescue mission. It is a celebration. It is a wedding feast. He is coming to get His beautiful, victorious bride.
We have been brought into the Kingdom of His Son. We are seated in Christ far above all problems. The enemy is under our feet. This is where we live.
We have redemption. We are the redeemed. Our freedom was very costly but Jesus paid our bill in full.
We are forgiven. Freely. Fully. Eternally.
It is so important that we know who we are, what we posses as Christians. Start this morning by declaring who you are:
Because of the atoning work of the cross,
I am qualified.
I am rescued.
I am in the Kingdom of the Son.
I am redeemed.
I am forgiven!
Now go out and boldly be who you are in Christ!
