I have secret for my Christian friends. Are you ready for this great revelation? Here it goes. “Sinners sin.” Shh don’t tell anyone.
For some reason we expect Pre-Christians to live a life we could not live before me had an encounter with Jesus. Paul said before Christ we were all foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by our passions and pleasures. (Titus 3) But then Jesus came in love and saved us. Not because we were good or deserving but because He is good.
So instead of judging, condemning, and shunning Pre-Christians, maybe we should simply meet them where they are. Like Jesus did for us. Jesus was criticized for eating with sinners. Jesus went to the well at noon, specifically to meet a woman shunned by society. He interacted with women whom society deemed as the worse of all sinners, with grace, love and forgiveness.
Let us become more like Jesus so that we don’t see the sin but the son, the daughter, the evangelist, the disciple, the worshipper within.
The Pharisees asked, “Why did Jesus eat with sinners?” Today, maybe the Holy Spirit is asking, “Why aren’t we eating with Pre-Christians?”
“While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?””
