At church yesterday, my pastor shared his vision of remodeling our worship center. I wander what our reactions would have been like if he suggested that the doors were to be overlaid with gold, lampstands and communion cups made of pure gold? Probably would not have gone over well.

The extravagance of the temple built by Solomon offends us all. Why? Because we cannot comprehend the vastness of God. We would think, you could use those resources to feed the poor. We cannot understand unlimited resources; a God who could feed the poor AND still provide pure gold lampstands.

I am not advocating for extravagant church buildings, or pure gold lampstands. I am not suggesting that our worship center resemble the temple Solomon built. But I do think we need to reevaluate how we think about God and resources.

What has God called you to do? Are you hesitant because of resources? Are you afraid to step out in faith because you can’t figure out how to pay for that? We serve a God who placed gold and precious stones in the Garden of Eden for aesthetics, built an extravagant temple just to display His glory, and has streets of gold prepared for his children to walk on in Heaven. A God who freely gave His own son to ransom a dying world. How will He not provide for that mission’s trip he told you to go on, that book He told you to write, that ministry He told you to start, that family He gave you?

His resources are unlimited. His generosity is unfathomable. His love is undeniable.

Ask God for a greater revelation of His generosity and love today. Let Him surprise you.

“the lampstands of pure gold with their lamps, to burn in front of the inner sanctuary as prescribed; the gold floral work and lamps and tongs (they were solid gold); the pure gold wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, dishes and censers; and the gold doors of the temple: the inner doors to the Most Holy Place and the doors of the main hall.”
