Their brother was dead. Dead! Buried. The Funeral had begun. But Jesus showed up, robbed the grave and gave their brother back to them. How do you show gratitude for that? How do you give thanks for such a precious gift?
You throw a party! The family held a feast in Jesus’ honor. They celebrated Jesus and what He had done for them. They could never repay Jesus for raising their brother from the dead, for restoring their family unit, for demonstrating the power of God in their lives. But they celebrated him the best they knew how. Martha served. Lazarus testified. Mary worshipped. In very different ways, this family honored Jesus with their gifts, their offering.
You know, each of us were dead. Dead in sin. We had begun walking in our own funeral procession and then one day Jesus became real to us. He robbed the grave once again on our behalf. He came to live in us, turned us around, restored us to Him, sat us in heavenly places and gave us life abundantly. How do you give thanks for such a priceless gift?
You live your life as a party. We celebrate what God has done. Like Martha, we serve. We were called to our royal position for such a time as this. Do what God has called you to do.
You testify. Like Lazarus, we fellowship with unbelievers and declare the goodness of God. We forever tell of the Lord’s goodness in our lives.
You worship. Mary gave all she had. Her dignity. Like Mary, We worship with no thought of what others think of us, with no thought of what we look like. We worship extravagantly and beautifully.
Today, let your life be a celebration of His goodness! Today and everyday party with your Lord and Savior!
Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
