It started with a 30 minute wait at WalMart and an admission of how truly impatient I am at times. It ended with my Heavenly Father inviting me to learn a lesson of a lifetime. He patiently showed me how to wait on Him so that I would be renewed in the wait.
Learning to wait with joy, with expectation, with anticipation, is perhaps one of the most important lessons we can learn as Christians.
It seems to me, we are always waiting as Christians. I don’t think God likes plateaus. He is always placing new dreams in our hearts, always giving us new ground to take in the kingdom. Always pressing us to come up higher, become more intimate with Him.
Since we spend so much of our Christian walk waiting, we need to learn to Wait well. I am grateful for the Father’s patience in teaching me to wait. I am printing out these life lessons as a reminder, when the wait lingers.
Perhaps, it is theme for a new book: on Friday we mourned His death. On Sunday we celebrated His Resurrection. But how do we get through Saturday – we wait well.
Here is a summary of what God has taught me:
In the wait:
1. Keep our hearts focused on God not what we are waiting for.
2. Advance the Kingdom Of God – heal the sick, feed the poor, set the captives free.
3. Fight for peace.
4. Don’t compare our timing with others.
5. Celebrate the small victories.
6. Guard what we allow into our eyes and ears. Feed our souls well.
7. No matter what comes our way, remember God is good and we are loved.
Let’s pray:
“Father, I thank you for teaching us to wait well. I thank you Father that as we wait, our strength will be renewed. We will mount up as wings like eagles. We will walk and not be weary. We will run and not faint. Holy Spirit open our eyes to see you in the wait. Open our eyes to see those in need around us and give us wisdom to advance your kingdom as we wait. Let us hear the Father singing over us. Let it calm our fears. Remind us constantly of your goodness and how much we are loved. Amen.”
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
