I wonder how many things we are going to have to “unlearn” when we get to heaven.

The other day, I commented on someone’s political post. I know bad idea. But then I started reading the comments used to justify their point of view. Scripture used in ways that made me cringe. I didn’t respond again. Well not on Facebook, but I had an entire conversation in my head.

Now, I’m sure I have made statements that have made other people cringe as well. I am confident, when I get to heaven I’m going to have to do some relearning as well.

We all unfortunately tend to read scripture through our political lenses, through our denominational lenses, through our father lenses. Since I have received a greater revelation of God’s grace, I read the Bible completely differently than before.

But this is what I am learning:
1. God is Big, Huge, Gigantic. His gist cannot be fully understood by any denomination or political party. God is liberal and He is conservative. He is Baptist and Pentecostal. He is the best of all who represent Him.

2. Perfect theology is not a requirement for salvation. Nor is it a requirement to serve, to heal, to pray. God can use us in the kingdom of God even if our theology is not perfect.

3. We all must be teachable. I can’t tell you how many times I have read a familiar verse and the Holy Spirit reveals something new. When you read the Bible, learn to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal deeper truths.

4. My theology may not be perfect, but there are two things that I am unmovable about. Two things I will not need to relearn when I get to heaven but will most likely get to understand better. I am convinced that GOD IS GOOD and HE IS LOVE! I am confident of these two things. I don’t understand the depth of His goodness. None of us do. He is so much ‘good-er’ than we can fathom. He loves far deeper than we can comprehend.

So when someone’s theology causes you to cringe, don’t disregard them. Ask God to give you and them a greater revelation of His goodness and love. Trust the Holy Spirit to do His job.

“For now we see but a faint reflection of riddles and mysteries as though reflected in a mirror, but one day we will see face-to-face. My understanding is incomplete now, but one day I will understand everything, just as everything about me has been fully understood. Until then, there are three things that remain: faith, hope, and love—yet love surpasses them all. So above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run.”
