“Teach us to pray,” the disciples asked. I don’t think they were prepared for the revolutionary prayer Jesus was about to give them.
“Our Father..” wait a minute. Shouldn’t I address God as Jehovah, El Elon, Master? No, when you pray, remember He is first and foremost, “Abba, Daddy, Papa.” We are His children. He’s our Dad. We approach Him as a child sitting in a loving, generous Father’s lap, enjoying the conversation, the intimacy, His presence.
Spend some time today meditating on the fact that you are
His child, He is your Dad. Crawl into His lap and allow Him to love you, speak to you. Bring your requests to Him as you would a Dad. Go to Him knowing He is a good, generous Father who always accepts us. His ear is always open to our cries. His thoughts towards us are always good.
And since you are His son, His daughter, all the resources of heaven belong to you. Remember, Jesus also told them to pray, “Your (God’s) kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
You are His child. He is your Dad!
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:6-7)
