Why Fear?

I made the mistake of watching a few “internet prophets”. Gloom and doom were their forecast. And if I’m honest, that is what I see with my natural eyes. So worry began to creep into my heart. Fear wanted a seat at my table.

As you watch the news and perhaps even listen to spiritual leaders, have you allowed fear to sit at your table? Have you allowed worry and anxiousness to find a place in your heart?

No condemnation. Many spiritual leaders are peddling fear today like TV evangelist once peddled miracle cloths and favor oil. It’s hard not to succumb to fearing what lies ahead. The future in the natural seems bleak.

This morning, I was reading often quoted Psalms 23. It’s one my favorites. I have the KJV memorized from childhood. But this morning, God showed me something fresh when read in a different translation:

“So why would I fear the future? Only goodness and tender love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I’ll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:6‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Why fear the future? Do I not trust God to keep me, protect me, provide for me?

Does the Bible read, “God shall supply all of your needs as long as you make the right financial choices?”

Did Paul write, “He who did not spare His own son but gave Him up for us all, how will he not freely give us all things as long as gas prices are under $2.00?”

Is the love of God limited? Did God promise, “Nothing can separate you from My love as long as Republicans run the government?”

Did the Old Testament prophets omit a portion? Should He have said, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper as long as you vote for the right candidate?”

Are God’s arms too short to overcome supply chains issues? War? Recession? Is God All-Powerful only when our bank accounts are overflowing?

Is Jesus enough or does He need help from the American government?

My friends, God’s promises are not guaranteed by the FDIC! His promises are guaranteed by His faithfulness, His goodness, His love. Your future is secure in Him. Surely HIs goodness and His mercy are with you now and will be with you tomorrow. Your future is not determined by who is in office but by Almighty God.

So why fear the future? Don’t. Trust His love for you!
